Angry and Dangerous
The number one cause of death for pregnant women in America is murder. Not number 3 or 4. Not complications due to pregnancy. Homicide. Number. One. Don’t believe me? Look it up. Then try to tell me that sexism and gender inequality are “not as bad” anymore. When everyone is told that women make less and therefore women are less than, we will be treated as such. When women are erased from the birthing narrative and thereby erased by the medical community, we will be treated as such. When everyone is told women aren’t to be trusted in making sexual health decisions about our own bodies and that our bodies are not our own, we will be treated as such.
Less than, erased, and owned by others.
We are possessions, in need of protection, mostly from ourselves, apparently. We are too emotional, too unstable, and cannot think clearly. We are told these lies until we believe them, and don’t trust our own instincts. An angry woman is a dangerous woman, because she has not surrendered to the pressures of society, and wants to fight for change. So she’s crazy, muzzle her, try to erase her like the others. Well, I am an angry woman. And I have finally decided that I have every right to be. Now that I have accepted that, I am thinking clearly for the first time.
